About

In 2010, a group of neighbors at Northridge Coop Homes wanted to bring the community together to improve health outcomes. Together, they decided to start a garden.

After visiting other nearby community and school gardens, they began planning. In 2011, the group received a grant from the SF Community Challenge Program that helped them get started. They started working with local youth and began transforming a site with almost no topsoil into a thriving produce garden, orchard and sanctuary.

Since then, the community group has received widespread support and worked with many City agencies, community based organizations, local businesses, and hundreds of volunteers. The garden has employed over 120 youth, young adults and a few elders, and has grown and distributed over 3 tons of produce grown with safe and organic methods.

They encourage you to come by and join them!

Get Involved

Volunteers can provide support in many different ways.  If you prefer to do physical work in gardens, then the group welcomes you onsite. They abide by all SF Public Health regulations, require masks and maintain social distancing. Please email the group at nchcommunitygarden@gmail.com for more information on volunteer opportunities.

The group also welcomes your creativity. If you can share any of the following skills, then the group welcomes you to reach out: assist with social media; work with youth via zoom or other platforms; haul compost/manure in your truck or loan us or donate a truck; beautify their site with signs, murals, sculpture; design a website and help maintain it; share your carpentry skills; fundraise for programs; or provide help with grants.

Volunteer days are Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, and Tuesdays from 11 AM to 2 PM. All are welcome!
