Ina Coolbrith Park

Ina Coolbrith was California’s first poet laureate and a prominent figure in the San Francisco Bay Area literary community.

This hidden gem is reflective of its namesake, featuring beautiful greenery and sweeping views of downtown San Francisco that are about as poetic as they get. There are plenty of benches to relax on and steps you can climb to reach a secret picnic spot perfect for watching sunset.

  • In 1911, Coolbrith accepted the presidency of the Pacific Coast Woman’s Press Association, and this park was dedicated to her one block from her pre-earthquake home in Russian Hill. A memorial plaque was placed in her honor in 1947 by the San Francisco parlors of the Native Daughters of the Golden West.
