Garden for the Environment

Garden for the Environment (GFE) is San Francisco’s teaching garden! GFE maintains a nationally acclaimed one-half acre urban demonstration garden, educating the public through hands on workshops and experiences. Since its founding in 1990, the garden has operated as a demonstration site for small-scale urban ecological food production, climate resilient gardening and composting education.

Today, GFE’s programs include: twice-weekly drop in volunteer hours, weekend workshops for adults, a youth field trip program, corporate workdays and customized organizational trainings, and a renowned three-month intensive Gardening and Composting Educator Training program (Get Up!). Whether you are a new gardener or an experienced urban farmer, you can learn the practical skills you need to garden successfully at GFE.

The Garden is located in San Francisco on 7th Avenue at Lawton Street.
